“EVERYONE RIDES WITH A DOG ON THEIR LAP” dad proclaimed, all the while he internally grumbled “I never wanted to get a dog!”

lol
I don’t know how many times I’ve explained why I find my Volvo wagon more useful than a similarly-sized SUV, or why my 3-series wagon had the same usable cargo space as my wife’s X3 (when we had both, it was hard not to compare).
My go-to simple explanation: “you need more floor space not vertical space because you can’t stack dogs”

“you cant stack dogs” sounds like a challenge :D
the Japanese will probably engineer cubic dogs like they did watermelons to suit

Depends on the dog. My wife (briefly) gave me a hard time about the Alltrack saying, “It’s nice, but Jules definitely will not fit.” Jules (a 1.5 year old English Mastiff) was 141 lbs then she’s definitely a lot heavier now. I’m interested to find out, she goes to the vet next Friday and I’m willing to bet shes 160 or better. She needs an SUV or the front seat.

ha! True, our dogs are only ~40lbs each.

Does VW not do split rear seats anymore? In my Golf, I have 60/40 splits, the seat bottom and seat back can go down independently on either side. So I can put the 60 side down and let my dog lay down and still carry two passengers and cargo.

If the dog isn’t smart enough to survive a few days alone at home, you need a new dog.
This post was brought to you by the cat gang

Our boxer is a springy 60 lbs and is much more manageable

yea they do, but she can’t sit or stand which she likes to do and will try to do anyway. I’d have a brindle headliner before too long. She tried to get in once and hit her back on the top and wouldn’t try again.

You can stack dogs, but then you end up with more dogs...

That top dog must be very well trained to lie down below the seat on the roof.

Ha, your dog is much taller than mine then. Mine will lay down, though.
